Dozens of counties throughout California have decided enough is enough when it comes to the nationwide opioid epidemic. They’ve joined together to sue opioid pharmaceuticals and distributors for their role in the crisis and to demand financial assistance in the recovery.
The suit is not alone in the nation. In March, Arkansas filed a similar claim, accusing opioid manufacturers of aggressively pushing the drugs and causing hundreds of overdose-related deaths. The suit further claims that “each manufacture-defendant knew that its misrepresentations of the risks and benefits of opioids were not supported by, or were directly contrary, to the scientific evidence.”
