Dr. Joseph DeSanto, M.D.
Dr. Joseph DeSanto, M.D. serves as Medical Director at Asana Recovery, where he oversees the administration of medical services and clinical care for clients across our Orange County treatment programs. A Board Certified physician in Internal Medicine with a specialty focus in Addiction Medicine, Dr. DeSanto brings more than a decade of experience leading medical care at prominent drug and alcohol treatment programs throughout Southern California.
Dr. DeSanto’s approach to addiction treatment is grounded in personalized, evidence-informed medical care. He believes recovery is most successful when treatment is built around the whole person — addressing the physical, neurological, and emotional dimensions of substance use disorders rather than treating symptoms in isolation. At Asana Recovery, this philosophy translates into individualized treatment plans that account for each client’s medical history, co-occurring mental health conditions, and personal recovery goals.
In addition to his work at Asana Recovery, Dr. DeSanto is the owner and Director of DeSanto Clinics for Recovery in Huntington Beach, California, where he treats patients in private practice using an integrative blend of therapies including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), IV nutritional therapy, and NAD therapy. His openness to combining established and emerging modalities reflects a commitment to giving each patient the best possible chance at full, lasting recovery.
Dr. DeSanto also serves as Medical Director of BioCorRx, a publicly traded healthcare company developing a novel implantable form of medication-assisted therapy. The research underlying this work has been supported in part by a grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), with the goal of expanding treatment options for patients struggling with opioid and alcohol use disorders.
Dr. DeSanto earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, and completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
