Asana Recovery's Outpatient Programs for ILWU Members
Four core outpatient programs plus secondary virtual IOP — each built to flex around dispatch hours, family responsibilities, and the physical demands of port work.
Most Common Entry Point
Partial Hospitalization (PHP)
Full-day clinical structure — 5–6 hours daily, 5 days per week — without overnight confinement. Right for members stepping down from detox or with severe co-occurring PTSD or depression. Typical duration 2–4 weeks before stepping down to IOP.
Most Flexible
Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
9–12 clinical hours per week across 3–5 sessions. Morning, afternoon, and evening tracks available — attend evening IOP and still board for day shifts, or attend mornings and work swing or night shifts.
Continuing Care
Outpatient (OP)
Lower-intensity continuing care — 1–3 sessions per week — for members who’ve completed PHP or IOP. Where long-term recovery skills get reinforced and most relapse prevention work happens.

Structured, substance-free homes in Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach. Pairs naturally with PHP or IOP — especially for out-of-state ILWU members from OR, WA, or NorCal who want a clean reset.

MAT That Works With Your Dispatch Schedule
Asana Recovery offers FDA-approved medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol use disorder. MAT directly addresses the receptor-level changes that injury-related opioid use and chronic alcohol use produce in the brain.
Suboxone
Buprenorphine/naloxone. Partial mu-opioid agonist that suppresses withdrawal and craving without the euphoric reinforcement that sustains active use. Prescribed by our medical team, no daily clinic visits.
Sublocade
Monthly injectable buprenorphine for members who want stable receptor coverage without remembering daily doses. Particularly useful during rotating shifts where daily schedules get disrupted.
Vivitrol
Extended-release naltrexone. Blocks the mu-opioid receptor and reduces alcohol cue-reactivity. No abuse potential, no withdrawal on discontinuation. Effective for both opioid and alcohol use disorder.
Naltrexone
Daily oral form of naltrexone — the same medication as Vivitrol, in tablet form. Useful for members who want a daily commitment they can adjust quickly, or who prefer not to receive monthly injections. Effective for both opioid and alcohol use disorder.

Methadone requires daily visits to a federally licensed opioid treatment program — a daily commitment that conflicts with rotating dispatch, board calls, and travel between ports. Suboxone, Sublocade, and Vivitrol all integrate cleanly with the dispatch lifestyle without tying you to a clinic that operates on rigid morning hours.

None of these require daily clinic visits, which makes them more compatible with rotating dispatch schedules than methadone. Methadone requires daily attendance at a federally licensed opioid treatment program.

Asana Recovery is an outpatient-only facility. When supervised detox is medically necessary, our admissions team coordinates placement through our trusted partner network — typically a five to seven day stay with 24-hour medical supervision and CIWA-Ar or COWS-guided pharmacological management. You then transition directly into Asana's PHP or IOP without a coverage gap.

Yes. ADRP coverage has been available to dependents since 1995. Alternatively, our Virtual IOP serves California-licensed members remotely if travel isn't an option.

FMLA leave is job-protected under federal law. Your position and equivalent employment rights are preserved during approved leave. The ADRP supports multiple treatment episodes—substance use disorder is a chronic relapsing condition, and the program is built around that clinical reality, not single-episode penalty thinking. If you've been through treatment before, you can access the program again.
