Did you ever think a legitimate “pot industry” would fuel a large portion of our economy? Whether you grew up in the 1970s or the 1990s, the chances are high (no pun intended) that you are not surprised in the least. After all, the little green plant has given quite a show this year, winning over three states in the midterm election, and has expanded into the world of beauty products and restaurants. So why wouldn’t it start contributing to a global or a national trade? According to high-ranking members of the cannabis community, one special event will serve as a major turning point for this ongoing debate about marijuana and provide a boost to this complex, multi-billion dollar industry. Let’s take a closer look at the Las-Vegas-based convention MJBizCon and see why it is so significant.
“MJBizCon Week”
This week, the 2018 MJBizCon kicked off in Las Vegas, Nevada (a hotspot for the state’s pot industry alone). From its opening day on November 14, the massive event will feature a plethora of exhibits, presentations, and networking opportunities for members of the cannabis community. (The show will conclude on November 16). Yesterday, organizers of the MJBizCon made a special announcement that the show would expand to a week-long event starting in 2019.
So where did the idea for a literal “Weed Con” start? Pot lovers can thank event organizers and officials from Clark County, Nevada and the City of Las Vegas. In a recent press release, these leaders explained how the change was influenced by the boom in attendance rates. As a result of the extended period, MJBizCon will begin to feature more activities and has projected to draw in a larger crowd than ever before. Likewise, officials have also agreed to move the Con date forward to December 9-13, 2018, with the first two days of that week offering preview activities.
Drawing in the Crowd
More people means more awareness, and, thanks to increasing numbers of visitors, MJBizCon has risen to become one of the most influential weed conferences in the entire marijuana industry. What’s even more remarkable is that this con has now become the largest and best-attended conferences, in general. (Sorry, San Diego Comic-Con).
Remarkably, Trade Show Magazine has ranked MJBizCon as the fastest-growing retail show in our country and the largest event (in terms of space) in the United States. Overall, the 2018 event was dispersed across 175,000 square feet of exhibition space, hosting over 1,000 company exhibits. This year alone, officials estimate that more than 25,000 people will attend (a 137% boost from the 2017 rate).
