Outcomes & Philosophy: What We Believe and What We Measure

At Asana Recovery, we believe in transparency. We believe that a treatment center should be willing to tell you not just what it does, but why it does it — and what the results look like. This page is our attempt to do both: to share the philosophy that drives every clinical decision we make, and to show you the outcomes that philosophy produce

In the addiction treatment industry, it’s easy to make promises. Every facility says they offer “personalized care.” Every website has stock photos of sunsets and smiling faces. The question that matters isn’t what a treatment center says — it’s what happens to the people who walk through the doors.

Our Treatment Philosophy

Asana Recovery’s philosophy isn’t complicated. But it’s different from how most treatment centers operate. It comes down to five core beliefs that shape everything — from how we design programs to how we hire staff to how long we recommend someone stays in treatment.

1. Addiction is a symptom, not the whole problem.

Substance use is almost never the only thing going on. Behind the addiction, there’s usually untreated trauma, undiagnosed anxiety or depression, relationship breakdown, career instability, or a combination of all of these. If treatment only addresses the substance use, the underlying drivers remain — and relapse is predictable.

This belief is why dual diagnosis treatment is our default model, not a specialty add-on. Approximately 75% of our clients present with co-occurring mental health conditions. We expect complexity, and we’re built for it.

2. Recovery happens in real life, not in isolation.

Residential treatment has its place — particularly for medical detox and acute stabilization. But lasting recovery is built in the real world, not removed from it. The coping skills, relapse prevention strategies, and emotional regulation tools that actually sustain sobriety need to be practiced against real-world stressors: the job that frustrates you, the relationship that triggers you, the neighborhood you drive through on the way home.

This belief is why we’re outpatient-first. Our PHPIOP, and Virtual IOP programs deliver the clinical intensity of residential treatment while keeping clients connected to the lives they’re rebuilding.

3. Treatment should build a life worth staying sober for.

Getting clean is the first step. But if treatment ends and the person returns to the same joblessness, social isolation, educational stagnation, and lack of purpose that preceded their addiction, relapse isn’t a question of if — it’s a question of when.

This belief is why Asana Recovery goes beyond clinical care to include career developmentacademic pathwayssober living, and community reintegration support. Employment, education, housing, and purpose aren’t afterthoughts — they’re treatment priorities.

4. The people delivering treatment matter as much as the treatment itself.

You can have the best clinical protocols in the world, and they’ll fail if the people implementing them don’t connect with the clients they’re serving. The therapeutic relationship — trust, authenticity, consistency — is one of the strongest predictors of treatment success, regardless of modality.

This belief is why we hire the way we do. Our clinical team is led by Dr. Joseph DeSanto, M.D., Medical Director and Board Certified in Internal Medicine with a specialty focus in Addiction Medicine, overseeing all medical services, medication-assisted treatment, and psychiatric care coordination. Our Clinical Director, Sheida Shavalian, LMFT, brings over a decade of specialized experience and oversees clinical programming, therapist supervision, and quality of care across all programs. And many of our staff — therapists, counselors, case managers — have personal recovery experience that brings an authenticity no textbook can replicate.

5. Independent ownership protects clinical integrity.

The treatment industry has a problem. Private equity firms have acquired hundreds of treatment centers in the past decade, and research consistently shows that PE-owned facilities are more likely to prioritize census over clinical appropriateness, shorten treatment stays to improve margins, and rotate staff frequently.

Asana Recovery is family-owned. There is no board of investors reviewing our census reports. No corporate playbook dictating treatment length. No pressure to discharge someone before they’re ready because a bed needs to be filled. Clinical decisions are made by clinicians, and the ownership team’s only directive is: do what’s right for the patient.

What We Measure: Outcomes That Matter

Many treatment centers avoid publishing outcomes data because it’s complicated. Recovery isn’t a simple pass/fail metric. Relapse is part of the process for many people, and long-term sobriety depends on countless factors beyond a treatment center’s control.

We understand all of that — and we still believe that a treatment center should be willing to show you what its clients achieve.

Here’s what we track and what we see:

Employment

Many clients who complete our program return to work or secure new employment. We track employment outcomes because employment is one of the strongest protective factors against relapse — a job provides structure, purpose, income, social connection, and identity, all of which support sustained recovery. Our career development program makes this outcome possible by integrating resume building, interview coaching, employer connections, and work-schedule coordination into the treatment plan.

Program Completion

Our program completion rates are strong relative to typical outpatient outcomes. We attribute this to several factors: flexible scheduling that accommodates real-life commitments, integrated treatment that addresses mental health alongside addiction (so clients aren’t leaving to seek care elsewhere), and a culture that makes people want to stay. When clients feel genuinely supported — not processed — they complete treatment.

Clinical Accreditation

Asana Recovery is Joint Commission accredited with no Requirements for Improvement (RFIs). This is the highest standard in behavioral healthcare accreditation. It means that an independent surveyor reviewed every aspect of our clinical protocols, patient safety procedures, documentation systems, staff credentials, emergency preparedness, and leadership accountability — and found nothing that needed correcting.

Zero RFIs is unusual. Most facilities receive at least a few. We received none — and we treat that as a baseline to maintain, not a ceiling to reach.

Client Satisfaction & Engagement

We monitor client satisfaction throughout the treatment process, not just at discharge. Feedback is collected regularly and reviewed by the clinical team to identify patterns, address concerns in real time, and continuously improve the treatment experience. Our Google reviews, alumni testimonials, and referral rates reflect a level of client satisfaction that we’re proud of — and that we work to maintain with every admission.

Recognition

External recognition validates what our internal data shows:

  • Newsweek Best Addiction Treatment Centers in California — 4 consecutive years (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025).
  • Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval — zero Requirements for Improvement.
  • LegitScript Certified — verified compliance with healthcare advertising and regulatory standards.
  • NAATP Member — National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers.

What We Don't Do (And Why)

Orange County Rehab Therapy

Our philosophy isn’t just about what we believe in — it’s also about what we refuse to do. These boundaries exist to protect our clients and maintain the clinical integrity that produces real outcomes.

  • We don’t guarantee outcomes. Any treatment center that guarantees sobriety is being dishonest. Recovery is a process influenced by factors far beyond any facility’s control. What we can guarantee is that every client receives evidence-based, individualized treatment delivered by qualified professionals in a supportive environment.

  • We don’t keep clients longer than clinically necessary. Treatment length is determined by clinical progress, not revenue targets. When you’re ready to step down, we support that transition — and we’re here if you need to step back up.

  • We don’t treat detox and discharge as a complete treatment plan. Medical detox is a critical first step for many substances, but detox alone is not treatment. Without structured follow-up care — therapy, psychiatric support, case management, community integration — the relapse rate after detox alone is extremely high. We coordinate detox with partner facilities and ensure that every client transitions into structured outpatient care afterward.

  • We don’t use unproven therapies to justify higher fees. Every modality we offer has a research base supporting its effectiveness for the populations we serve. If the evidence doesn’t support it, we don’t offer it — regardless of how marketable it might be.

  • We don’t compromise confidentiality. HIPAA protections are a minimum standard, not a marketing differentiator. We go beyond the minimum — particularly for clients in professions where discovery of treatment could have career consequences, including educatorsairline professionalsfirst responders, and veterans.

Continuous Improvement: How We Get Better

Achieving Joint Commission accreditation with zero RFIs doesn’t mean we stop improving. It means we have a verified system for continuing to improve. At Asana Recovery, quality improvement isn’t a department — it’s a daily practice embedded in how we operate.

  • Clinical team reviews — Treatment plans are reviewed regularly by the clinical team and adjusted based on client progress, not arbitrary timelines.
  • Client feedback integration — Satisfaction data is collected throughout treatment and reviewed monthly. When patterns emerge, protocols are updated.
  • Staff development — Our clinical team participates in ongoing training, continuing education, and supervision. Evidence-based practices evolve, and our team stays current.
  • Outcomes tracking — Employment rates, program completion data, and clinical metrics are tracked and used to evaluate and refine our programming over time.
  • Accreditation maintenance — Joint Commission accreditation requires ongoing compliance, not just a one-time survey. We maintain readiness at all times.

From Philosophy to Practice: What This Means for You

If you’re reading this page, you’re probably trying to decide whether Asana Recovery is the right fit — for yourself or for someone you love. Here’s what our philosophy and outcomes mean in practical terms:

  • Your treatment plan will be individualized. Not a template. Not a one-size-fits-all track. Your diagnosis, your history, your goals, and your response to treatment will shape every decision.
  • Your mental health will be treated alongside your addiction. Not after. Not separately. Together — by one integrated clinical team.
  • You’ll be able to maintain your life while you heal. Work, school, family, housing — our outpatient programs are designed to fit around the parts of your life that support recovery.
  • You’ll build toward something, not just away from something. Employment, education, housing, and purpose are part of your treatment plan from early on.
  • You’ll be treated by people who care — and who stay. Low staff turnover, experienced clinicians, and a culture of genuine investment in each client’s success.
  • Your treatment length will be determined by your progress, not by a billing department. We’re family-owned. Clinical decisions are made by clinicians.
