Trauma manifests in different ways depending on the type of experience, when it occurred, and individual factors. Our clinical team provides specialized treatment for the full spectrum of trauma-related conditions.
Trauma changes the brain — but healing is possible. Asana Recovery’s outpatient PTSD and trauma treatment in Orange County uses evidence-based therapies including EMDR (the gold-standard PTSD treatment endorsed by the American Psychological Association and World Health Organization), Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and trauma-focused CBT to help you process traumatic memories safely, reduce PTSD symptoms, and rebuild your sense of safety. Treatment is delivered at our outpatient center across PHP, IOP, Virtual IOP, and Standard Outpatient — with specialized care for veterans, first responders, and adult (men and women) survivors of complex trauma.
Trauma isn’t just a difficult experience—it’s an event that overwhelms your ability to cope, leaving lasting effects on your brain, body, and sense of self. While most people recover naturally from traumatic events, some develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or other trauma-related conditions that require professional treatment.
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, about 6% of the U.S. population will experience PTSD at some point in their lives. The condition is even more common among certain groups—approximately 11-20% of veterans who served in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom develop PTSD, as do many first responders, survivors of assault, and those who experienced childhood abuse.
At Asana Recovery, we provide specialized trauma-informed treatment through our Orange County outpatient programs. Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Virtual IOP for California residents, and Standard Outpatient programs offer the intensive support needed to process trauma—while allowing you to practice new coping skills in your daily life, where lasting change actually happens.
Trauma-informed care recognizes that trauma affects the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Our entire program is designed around principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. We never push you faster than you’re ready, and we understand that healing happens at your pace.

Effective trauma treatment helps you process traumatic memories safely, reduce PTSD symptoms, and develop new ways of coping. Our approach combines the most effective evidence-based therapies with compassionate, individualized care.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized psychotherapy that helps the brain process and integrate traumatic memories. Endorsed by the American Psychological Association, World Health Organization, and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a first-line PTSD treatment, EMDR can produce significant symptom reduction in as few as 6 to 12 sessions — and unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn’t require detailed verbal recounting of the trauma. Our outpatient programs provide more intensive support than traditional weekly therapy — combining daily trauma processing work with the chance to practice grounding, regulation, and coping skills in your real-world environment, where healing actually integrates:
Our Virtual IOP delivers the same trauma-focused treatment from anywhere in California via secure video sessions — ideal for clients who can’t attend in person, who feel safer processing trauma from a familiar environment, or who live outside Orange County.
While we treat anyone affected by trauma, we have particular expertise with certain populations:
Combat trauma, military sexual trauma, transition challenges
Cumulative trauma, critical incidents, occupational stress
Childhood abuse and neglect survivors
Domestic violence, intimate partner abuse
Serious illness, medical procedures, ICU survivors
Natural disasters, accidents, community violence
Trauma and substance use disorders frequently occur together. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), up to 75% of people who experience trauma report problematic alcohol use, and people with PTSD are 2-4 times more likely to develop a substance use disorder.
Many trauma survivors use substances to cope with painful memories, numb overwhelming emotions, or manage sleep problems. While this provides temporary relief, it ultimately prevents healing and creates additional problems.
At Asana Recovery, we began as an addiction treatment center and have deep expertise in treating co-occurring trauma and substance use disorders. Our integrated approach addresses both conditions simultaneously—because you can’t fully heal from one without addressing the other.
Take the first step toward reclaiming your life. Our trauma-specialized team is here to help you find lasting relief from PTSD.

Many people see significant improvement within 8-16 weeks of evidence-based treatment like EMDR or CPT. However, treatment length depends on trauma severity, whether it was single-incident or complex, and individual factors. We focus on lasting healing rather than rushing the process.
Not necessarily, and never before you’re ready. Some effective treatments (like EMDR) don’t require detailed verbal recounting of trauma. We always build safety and coping skills first, and you control the pace of any trauma processing work.
While “cure” isn’t typically the language clinicians use, many people experience complete resolution of PTSD symptoms after treatment. Others achieve significant reduction in symptoms and learn to manage any remaining effects. The goal is for trauma to become a memory rather than a present experience.
It’s never too late to heal from trauma. Many of our patients are processing experiences from decades ago. The brain remains capable of healing throughout life, and effective treatment can help regardless of when the trauma occurred.
Yes, many clients maintain employment during treatment. Our IOP offers flexible morning and evening sessions, and our Virtual IOP can be accessed from anywhere in California via secure video. Some clients take time off for the initial stabilization phase — especially with severe PTSD or complex trauma — but most can balance work with outpatient trauma treatment, which is one of the core advantages of outpatient care over inpatient settings.
Most major PPO insurance plans cover outpatient mental health treatment for PTSD and trauma-related conditions, including our PHP and IOP programs—this is a federal requirement under the Mental Health Parity Act and the Affordable Care Act. Asana Recovery is in-network with Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, ComPsych, TriCare, and Tri-West (including specialized expertise in VA-related coverage for veteran trauma survivors). Most other PPO plans are accepted on an out-of-network basis. Verify your insurance for a free, confidential benefits check — usually within the hour.

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.
To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.
This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.
Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.
If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email
Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:
Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.
These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.
Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).
Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs. There may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to
