Although the standup comedian and movie star has not graced the center spotlight for some time, Russell Brand has still cemented himself as a memorable character actor in Hollywood. From his high-profile (and short-lived) marriage to singer Katy Perry to his scandalous records in the tabloids, Brand has always lived a crazy lifestyle not unlike that of Arthur, a character (originally played by Dudley Moore) he portrayed in the remake of the 1981 classic film Arthur (2011). Although wild partying seems to be far behind him, Brand is not shy about discussing his clean lifestyle. Let’s take a closer look and discover what he had to say.

Possessed by a Sickness

In a recent interview, Brand discussed how terrifying the roller coaster of addiction can truly be, even explaining how we was “possessed” by madness. At one point, he could not tell where the pain began or ended and lived life in a total blur. From a pregnancy scare (with another woman) to wild driving, Brand weaves a story that would blow any young teenager’s mind.

Heroin Works Magic

Later, Brand describes the black magic of heroin by explaining that the painkiller is not just effective but overwhelmingly effective. The actor happily explains that it has been well over ten years since he left his “private hell,” but he emphasizes how addiction is an irrational and uncontrollable madness. Alcoholics and drug addicts are entirely helpless, as he explains, but the battle will continue for as long as he lives. Although other people resort to these poisons, Brand is very happy that he no longer needs to cope with needles and highs.

Throughout the decades, many famous people have suffered from severe (and particularly dangerous) cases of drug addiction, sometimes leading to uncomfortably dangerous situations that are plastered across social media and the press. Still, you can always push the train back up, but it will be a difficult hike. However, with the right mixture of perseverance and determination, you can easily get back on track and be happy once more.
