Over the course of several years, the little green plant called marijuana has left a huge impact on our culture, and perhaps one of the most interesting situations is currently taking place in the United States of American. Despite an overwhelming appreciation for the drug, nearly half of the country has yet to legalize the plant for medical purposes, but groups of scientists are still looking into the potential medical benefits of this fragrant herb. Still, for every positive aspect of cannabis we dig up, there is always something negative. Nothing proves this fact more clearly than an incident that transpired about six days ago in a district of Los Angeles, California. Let’s take a closer look at why two people died as the result of a shooting in an L.A. Koreatown pot dispensary.

Big Trouble in Little California

While it is one of the pioneers of the pro-cannabis movement, California has recently faced tragedy due to an incident in a marijuana store. Last Monday, November 12, 2018, at 4:20 AM, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Olympic Division were dispatched to the scene of a shooting that had taken place on the 400 block of Western Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a locked, empty store. After contacting a woman who is an employee at this location, she explained that she and some customers were inside the store when they heard gunfire in the waiting room.

After entering this area of the building, officers found two gunshot victims. Both people were pronounced dead at the scene. No details about their identities have been provided.

Show Me Your License

Later, officials searched the Los Angeles Department of Cannabis Regulation and discovered that no registered marijuana stores appeared on the 400 block of Western Avenue. Surprisingly, though, the website does list a location called Korea Town Exotics (447 S. Western Avenue) in Los Angeles. While the number was labeled a “24-hour line,” no employees answered the phone early Monday morning.

Currently, homicide detectives are looking into the cause of the shooting. No details about the store’s license or questionably legal status have been revealed. If anything this situation reveals, once again, how tricky the integration of a formerly illegal substance can be in a culture.
