Going through a substance abuse recovery program is symbolic of the need for change in your life. Having spent so long dealing with substance abuse, you now realize how much time and energy was wasted on feeding the addiction.

Our inpatient program at Asana Recovery helps patients discover new and fun activities that are healthy. Quite often, our patients work together to build each other up so they can overcome their addiction. This strong support team helps individuals move forward positively, which is something that needs to continue once a patient re-enters society.

In order to continue on this positive path, it is important for addicts to find group activities in their own communities that they can engage in.

Thankfully, there are numerous activities available in communities across the country that recovering addicts can choose from. Some of the most common are:

  1. Join a sports team. In any community, you are sure to find a sports team you can join that fits your schedule. Whether you like soccer, flag football, basketball, or even hockey – there are endless options that are fun and affordable for you to choose from.
  2. Volunteer with a group of friends. Endless charitable organizations across the country are in dire need of help on a daily basis. You can schedule a sober-meet up easily online to gather others throughout the community that can work with you to help others in need. Not only is this an exceptional way to help disadvantaged individuals, but it is a great way to meet other individuals in recovery.
  3. Try joining a poetry group. Writing is a creative outlet you can use to express your feelings and emotions to others. Not only does it provide a release for getting your deepest feelings out, but it allows you to analyze your thoughts and feelings more adequately. This is especially helpful for individuals dealing with depression or other mood disorders on top of their addiction.
  4. Join an art therapy group. Whether you love photography, painting, or making clay pots – there are several artistic releases individuals can engage in. Not only do these activities provide a creative outlet for you, but they allow you to spend hours of enjoyment crafting new and beautiful things.
  5. Attend group therapy. Just because you are out of rehab doesn’t mean peer support should stop. Instead, continuing to attend group therapy can help you stay on a positive path. These groups are often designed for people to share their experiences and work to develop skills for dealing with various situations.

At Asana Recovery, we recognize that a great treatment program does not end once a patient leaves the facility. Instead, it is important to provide outpatient options, like counseling and peer meetings, that help patients continue on their pathway to sobriety.

If you or someone you know is looking for a reliable inpatient treatment or an exceptional outpatient program that works with your busy schedule, call us today at (949) 438-4504 to see how we can help.
