Cigna Mental Health and Co-Occurring Disorders Coverage

Drug and alcohol addiction rarely come without complications. Many individuals seeking treatment also face mental health challenges like depression, PTSD, or anxiety. Naturally, you might be asking, “Does Cigna cover mental health treatment too?” The good news is that Cigna does offer coverage for mental health disorders alongside addiction treatment. Depending on your specific plan, Cigna’s mental health benefits may include services like:

Licensed mental health providers
Mental health services and follow up case management services
Referrals to local community support groups, online resources, and behavioral coaches
Referral services, consultations, outpatient services

Your mental health is as important as your physical health. Cigna understands this, so they do cover many mental health services. However, be sure to check your plan or contact us to see what your policy includes. You may need to receive approval from Cigna before you receive services under your plan.

  • $4,000 to $20,000 depending on your Cigna plan (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum).

Outpatient Treatment Costs:

  • $2,000 to $10,000 depending on your Cigna plan.
  • Check your Cigna policy to see what services are covered and your out-of-pocket expenses.

Medications for Addiction Treatment

  • Treatment coverage largely depends on your specific Cigna plan, which means that while medication may be covered, the percentage covered and the deductible required can vary significantly. Cigna insurance offers coverage for a wide range of medications used in addiction and substance abuse treatment.
  • This includes both Suboxone, commonly used for treating heroin addiction and managing withdrawal symptoms, and Methadone, a widely used medication for opioid addiction treatment. Coverage details will depend on your individual policy.

How Do Asana Recovery and Cigna Protect My Privacy?

The great news is that Cigna health insurance does cover a wide range of services with their Cigna Rehab Provider Network. Cigna provides a wide range of treatment options for their policyholders, including detox, inpatient and residential rehabilitation, partial hospital treatment, and intensive outpatient treatment. Cigna coverage also covers counseling for addiction treatment as well. However, how much Cigna covers depends on your specific Plan.

Cigna bronze plan, for example, is their lowest coverage. What that means is that individuals with this plan may face higher deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses. People with higher premium policies, which are called gold and platinum, may receive more coverage and lower deductibles.

How much will the insurance company pay for addiction services? Precisely what and how much covered depends on many factors, such as where you live and your plan. You can contact Cigna to review your policy and what services are covered. Our advisors here can also help to answer your questions.

Cigna PPO: Can You Go Out of Network?

  • With a Cigna PPO plan, you may be able to go out of network, but coverage varies by plan.
  • Out-of-network services may have higher deductibles or out-of-pocket costs.

  • Asana Recovery helps you navigate your options, whether in-network or out-of-network.

Insurance Addiction Resources

Cigna also offers additional support for its members that are struggling with a substance use disorder. They created the Behavioral Health Division to provide their members with resources to further their education. Resources include articles, podcasts, and tools for those who suffer from substance abuse as well as their loved ones. They also include an educational seminar series to give more information on substance abuse and help.

These resources and seminars are used as informational only and should be used along with help from a doctor. They are not intended to replace the care of a doctor. Always consult with a medical professional about the best course of treatment.

Cigna PPO: Can You Use An Out-of-network Treatment Center

A concern for Cigna members is whether or not their treatment can be obtained from an out-of-network provider. Whether or not Cigna will cover out-of-network services depends largely on your plan. However, not all policies require your treatment center to be in-network to be covered.

It is important to note that while an out-of-network treatment center may be covered, your out-of-pocket expense does usually increase for services that are not in-network. Some plans don’t cover out-of-network providers. Other policies, though, will include some after a deductible or coinsurance has been met.

The process for using an out-of-network provider usually requires obtaining a pre-certification. Cigna reviews your request for the provider against nationally recognized guidelines. Cigna will then determine what services they will cover for your plan. You can contact Cigna to find out what treatment options are available.

Cigna Behavioral Health

Cigna provides options for behavioral and mental health. In many cases, pre-authorization is required. Contact Cigna before receiving services to make sure that they are covered. You can contact a customer service representative on the phone or through the Member Portal.

Does Cigna Cover Suboxone?

Treatment coverage depends mostly on your individual plan. What that means is that although medication is covered, the percentage that is covered or the deductible due before coverage varies widely. Cigna insurance does cover a wide range of medication for anti-addiction/substance abuse treatment. Suboxone is a part of their treatment plan and can be covered. Since it is commonly used to treat heroin addiction and reduces withdrawal symptoms, they do cover it.

Does Cigna Cover Methadone Treatment?

Methadone is another common treatment to reduce withdrawals. It is used as a pain reliever and is often a part of drug addiction detoxification. Methadone is a treatment covered under Cigna. However, contact the company directly to see if it is covered under your specific plan.
