Just when you thought the American Opioid Crisis couldn’t get any worse, the news has reported another terrible tragedy involving these deadly painkillers. Recently, a local news source reported that the city of Chico, California has been the epicenter of a tragic mass opioid overdose which has claimed 1 life and injured 12 more people. Even more disturbing, authorities believe the primary cause of the deadly incident was fentanyl, a dangerous opioid that has been at the center of the deaths of Tom Petty and Prince. Reported to the local police this weekend, this incident only illustrates the grim reality of the epidemic that is currently sweeping across our beautiful country like wildfire and has served as a tragic eye-opener for the danger of illegal toxins. Let’s take a closer look at this mass opioid overdose and learn more information.

Fentanyl Strikes Again

According to the report issued on Saturday, January 12, 2019, a deadly opioid overdose occurred in the city of Chico, California in a residential home. Tragically, one person died from the drugs, while 12 other people sustained serious injuries. Based on an additional statement provided by Chico Police Chief Michael O’Brien, he and his officers believe the dangerous painkiller fentanyl may have been responsible for this tragic incident. (Recent government reports have confirmed that this dangerous drug is the most dangerous substances in the United States.) Initially, a news source speculated the incident transpired at some time around 9:12 AM, when police initially received the report.

Civilian and Officer Injuries

Unfortunately, civilians were not the only victims of this deadly event. As the report indicates, police officers administered naloxone to the survivors to block the effects of this opioid drug (and another substance that forensic teams have not yet identified), and, as a result of interactions with the scene, two officers started to experience the characteristic effects produced by fentanyl (showing how dangerous this opioid can truly be). Although the mass overdose is tragic and heartbreaking, this report does provide a clear image of how naloxone treatment is beneficial to combatting this epidemic, one shot at a time.
