Cigna Insurance

Cigna Drug & Alcohol Rehab Coverage

Deciding to seek treatment opens the doors to many other questions.

One of the first ones is, “can I afford rehab?”

Insurance is one of the top ways many people can afford the help that they need. However, they may not know how to go about using insurance to cover their treatment.

If you have Cigna health insurance, it is possible to have much of the cost covered for you.

With the help of our experts here at Asana Recovery, we can guide you through the process of understanding your health insurance coverage and finding the best solution for you.

Cigna is one of the oldest insurance companies around and provides services for 95 million people. Formed back in 1792, their motto is “Together, all the way.” However, like most insurance companies of that size and substantial background, it can be challenging to navigate. You might have a hard time understanding exactly what your policy covers and whether you can get inpatient or outpatient services with Cigna Healthcare.

Does Cigna Cover Drug And Alcohol Rehab?

Cigna does cover a wide variety of services for the treatment of drugs and alcohol. They provides a network of providers that offer therapy and a wide range of treatments. Those within their network program have been screened for their adherence to best practices regarding modern treatment, their quality of care, and the follow-up care they offer. Their network makes it easier to find a provider and provides the highest amount of coverage. However, that doesn’t mean that you cannot use another provider. Depending on your coverage, you may be able to use an out-of-network treatment center for a higher cost.

Cigna Policy Coverage For Substance Abuse

The great news is that Cigna health insurance does cover a wide range of services with their Cigna Rehab Provider Network. Cigna provides a wide range of treatment options for their policyholders, including detox, inpatient and residential rehabilitation, partial hospital treatment, and intensive outpatient treatment. Cigna coverage also covers counseling for addiction treatment as well. However, how much Cigna covers depends on your specific Plan.

Cigna bronze plan, for example, is their lowest coverage. What that means is that individuals with this plan may face higher deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses. People with higher premium policies, which are called gold and platinum, may receive more coverage and lower deductibles.

How much will the insurance company pay for addiction services? Precisely what and how much covered depends on many factors, such as where you live and your plan. You can contact Cigna to review your policy and what services are covered. Our advisors here can also help to answer your questions.

Insurance Addiction Resources

Cigna also offers additional support for its members that are struggling with a substance use disorder. They created the Behavioral Health Division to provide their members with resources to further their education. Resources include articles, podcasts, and tools for those who suffer from substance abuse as well as their loved ones. They also include an educational seminar series to give more information on substance abuse and help.

These resources and seminars are used as informational only and should be used along with help from a doctor. They are not intended to replace the care of a doctor. Always consult with a medical professional about the best course of treatment.

Cigna Mental Health

Drug and alcohol addiction rarely present on their own. Those who seek treatment often have other mental health needs as well. Whether depression, PTSD, anxiety, or others, you may wonder whether Cigna also covers mental health disorders.

Cigna does provide insurance coverage for mental health disorders as well as addiction treatment. Depending on your specific plan, some of the services that Cigna mental health benefits cover in-network include:

Licensed mental health providers
Mental health services and follow up case management services
Referrals to local community support groups, online resources, and behavioral coaches
Referral services, consultations, outpatient services
Your mental health is as important as your physical health. Cigna understands this, so they do cover many mental health services. However, be sure to check your plan or contact Cigna to see what your policy includes. You may need to receive approval from Cigna before you receive services under your plan.

Cigna PPO: Can You Use An Out-of-network Treatment Center

A concern for Cigna members is whether or not their treatment can be obtained from an out-of-network provider. Whether or not Cigna will cover out-of-network services depends largely on your plan. However, not all policies require your treatment center to be in-network to be covered.

It is important to note that while an out-of-network treatment center may be covered, your out-of-pocket expense does usually increase for services that are not in-network. Some plans don’t cover out-of-network providers. Other policies, though, will include some after a deductible or coinsurance has been met.

The process for using an out-of-network provider usually requires obtaining a pre-certification. Cigna reviews your request for the provider against nationally recognized guidelines. Cigna will then determine what services they will cover for your plan. You can contact Cigna to find out what treatment options are available.

Does Cigna Cover Suboxone?

Treatment coverage depends mostly on your individual plan. What that means is that although medication is covered, the percentage that is covered or the deductible due before coverage varies widely. Cigna insurance does cover a wide range of medication for anti-addiction/substance abuse treatment. Suboxone is a part of their treatment plan and can be covered. Since it is commonly used to treat heroin addiction and reduces withdrawal symptoms, they do cover it.

Does Cigna Cover Methadone Treatment?

Methadone is another common treatment to reduce withdrawals. It is used as a pain reliever and is often a part of drug addiction detoxification. Methadone is a treatment covered under Cigna. However, contact the company directly to see if it is covered under your specific plan.
