SOME FACTS ABOUT LEGAL CANNABIS IN OHIO

As the marijuana debate continues to rage through our country, many states are beginning to sway toward the pro-cannabis viewpoint. As of 2018, more than 30 states have officially legalized medical marijuana, with 8 (including California, Washington, and Maine) allowing the use of recreational weed. As we speak, Utah and Missouri are taking new stands on the drug, while a few states (like Alabama) are maintaining strong regulations concerning the little green plant. Surprisingly, though, one particular Midwest state has started to show a more lenient perspective toward marijuana in recent years. Let’s take a closer look at the status of legal cannabis in Ohio and see how the Buckeye State is handling the drug.

Beautiful Ohio

Let’s just say there is a very good reason this state is referred to as America’s Heartland. From the beautiful Appalachian foothills to the south to the majestic shores of Lake Erie to the North, Ohio offers a variety of beautiful landscapes for people from all walks of life. Nature lovers can escape to the bird sanctuaries along Catawba Island and catch glimpses of elusive snowy owls. Adventurers and thrill-seekers will enjoy endless hours of hiking, horseback riding, and sledding in the variety of metro parks across the state. If you are craving an urban escape, head to the capital city of Columbus to party in the Short North, or escape to the Cincinnati underground for a daring night. Overall, the Heartland has something for everybody.

Loose Regulations

Surprisingly, Ohio is one of the only states in the Midwest to hold a loose grip on marijuana. In fact, even though the drug it technically illegal, possession of the little green plant has not been criminalized. If a person is caught holding a maximum of 100 grams of marijuana (including farming) or giving a maximum of 20 grams to another person, they will face a misdemeanor charge and pay a $150 fine. On September 8, 2016, the Ohio State government officially legalized medical marijuana.
