Over the course of several decades, John Stamos has not only cemented himself in 90s pop culture but has also risen to become an icon for not only 90s kids but their parents, as well. At the start of his career, the Greek actor gained fame for his portrayal of Jesse Katsopolis on the hit sitcom Full House (1987-1995) and eventually gained a role as Dr. Tony Gates on the medical drama series ER (1994-2009). In that time span, though, Stamos has also earned appreciation for his work in charity as well as his team-up with The Beach Boys. However, what many people may not know is that the actor and musician once suffered from a severe case of addiction to alcohol and anti-depressants. Let’s take a closer look at what John Stamos had to say.

Ambien-Alcohol Cocktail

In an interview with Howard Stern in 2016, John Stamos discussed how his addiction was a roller coaster of insanity, topped by a DUI and an insomnia-fueled dependence on Ambien. Although he had been fighting a severe bout of alcoholism, the actor admits how his true struggle came in the form of his attachment to anti-depressants. Although booze messed up his mind, Stamos confirms that Ambien was a different story altogether.

Putting Your Future on the Line

However, in June 2016, Stamos’ problems took a severe downward spiral after he was arrested for a DUI incident in Beverly Hills. According to the report, the actor had consumed GHB prior to operating his vehicle. Later, the California court sentenced Stamos to three years of probation, attend 52 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and take part in counseling programs. Ever since this brush with mayhem, Stamos cleaned up his act and living happy and free.
