When a person uses drugs it has an enormous effect on their family.   As the addiction begins to take over the family members life, they begin to distance themselves from family and feeling that the love is replaced with hate, mood swings, and betrayal.  Drug administration diction is disastrous and affects the whole family.  Here are some impacts that can happen when drugs take over an addict’s life. You

Distance- An addict will begin to distance themselves from family and friends.  The shame of their drug use will cause them to go to extreme measures to hide their addiction from their loved ones.  The distance and removing themselves from social situations where they can not use will also be an indicator. Individuals will usually go where they can use and not be criticized.

Maintaining a  Job- As the drug habit increases the cost of maintaining the drug use escalates.  Paying bills and keeping employment may not be the priority for the addict. This can have a tremendous impact on their family.  Without money to sustain their drug use, an addict will turn to family and friends for money. Using becomes the main goal and how they obtain their drug of choice is the main goal.  This can continue for as long as the family member is able to hide their addiction.

Emotionally– Adult dicts create emotional trauma for their family and friends.  Some family members may offer the addict love and emotional support while some may feel great pain due to the addict’s lies and manipulation.  While the families try to wrestle with these emotions it causes a divide between them.  The whole family will suffer when dealing with these opposing emotions. Conflicts can lead to arguments, avoidance and possibly violence.  The emotional chaos can wear down their family both mentally and physically.

Jealousy– With so much attention focused on the loved one with addiction resentments may grow between family members.

Non-addicted family members can become jealous of the way the addict is helped with money, food, and attention. Passions run high when it comes to addiction.

The actions and behaviors of a loved one addicted to drugs have long-lasting consequences.  The addiction has significant impacts on their family and causes severe dysfunction.  It is very important to recognize the signs of addiction so the loved one can receive the treatment they need to overcome this disease.  As a result, the entire family is able to heal and create an environment based on healthy interaction and communication between the family members.
