Over the course of several decades, Ben Affleck has certainly cemented himself as a major figure in Hollywood cinema. Through his friendship with fellow actor Matt Damon, the pair created the film Good Will Hunting (1998), which received overwhelming critical acclaim and won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Later, Affleck would star in the romantic comedy Forces of Nature (1999) and the thriller Sum of All Fears (2002) before returning to his role as a producer, helping develop films like The Town (2010) and Argo (2012). He has even received spots in comic book adaptations, starring as Matthew Murdock/Daredevil in Daredevil (2003) and Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman v Superman (2016) and Justice League (2017). However, at one point during his success, Affleck suffered from a not-so-glorious time filled with booze bottles and addiction. Let’s take a closer look at what he had to say about his long-term alcoholism.

Sharing His Story

Back in 2018, Affleck shared a message via Instagram that he had successfully completed a 40-day rehabilitation program at a local treatment center and will continue to take part in outpatient care for his sickness. Although he had previously taken part in treatment in 2001 and 2007, Affleck appears to have, at long last, found resolve. Overall, he thanks his family and friends for providing a pillar of support on which he can lean. In his message, Affleck describes addiction as a never-ending battle.

Identifying with Other People

Needless to say, Affleck has received praise from other people besides his closest friends and his family members. On social media platforms, fans of the actor and producer have described their battles with mental illness and have praised Affleck for his inspiring story. Overall, we have to agree that it takes a lot of strength to come forward to talk about something so difficult.
