With all the torment of withdrawal and recovery you have to endure during the healing process, sometimes laughter can really serve as the best type of medicine. After all, comedy opens up the door for us to laugh at our problems, as mild or severe as they may be, and can also bring us closer together. After all, how many times have you met a drugged-out landlord or had to meet someone who was a little too tipsy to comprehend what you were saying? Whether you have been in those addicted shoes or not, we can all agree that finding humor in our problems is better than wallowing in our sorrows. Just ask some of the best comedians, whose sketches have exposed the best and worst of humanity at once. Let’s take a closer look at some comedy bits that perfectly illustrate drug use.

Robin Williams: “Cocaine” (Live at the Met, 1986)

In possibly one of his most famous stand-up performances of all time, the late comedian Robin Williams sent audiences into a frenzy of laughter in 1986 while covering topics ranging from nuclear warfare to childbirth, but possibly his most memorable but is his coverage of “Peruvian marching powder” (a.k.a., cocaine). In a hilarious sketch, he discusses how athletes could not perform without the boost of this stimulant and even plays with the methods Japanese people could use to administer the drug.

Gabriel Iglesias: “Drunk People” (Hot & Fluffy, 2007)

One of the youngest comedians on the stage, Gabriel Iglesias has been cracking up audiences with his down-to-earth attitude, sweet disposition, and hilarious perspective on life. Needless to say, Fluffy, as his fans call him, has an affinity for partying himself, so it may come as no surprise that his perspective on alcohol is grade-A proof. In fact, in his hilarious 2007 comedy special, Iglesias explains that he could outdrink Irish people during St. Patrick’s Day, followed by one of his classic wide-eyed expressions.

Dave Chappelle: “The Landlord Who Smokes Crack” (Stand Up Comedy, 1997)

Needless to say, Dave Chappelle might be one of the best deadpan comedians on the stage and screen, but his affinity to capture the pain of real life and transform it into comedy is pure gold. In one of his standup routines from 1997, the comedian talks about a landlord who was a bit too buzzed when he entered a hotel room, followed by Chappelle’s commentary about smoking crack. Although it might not be as memorable as his comments about D.C. in “Killing Them Softly,” this all-too-realistic perspective on life is worth mentioning.
