In many cases, success comes with just a snap of the fingers, in the case of one legendary actor. Since the beginning of his career, Josh Brolin has risen from the ranks of beloved child actor to a smooth-talking bad boy in numerous movies. From his first role in the classic film The Goonies (1985), Brolin eventually gained fame for his portrayal of Llewellyn Moss in No Country for Old Men (2007), Dan White in Milk (2008), and his work in a variety of dramatic and comedic works. However, Brolin has more recently received critical acclaim for his role as Thanos the Mad Titan, the villain of Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019). Still, the actor has managed to overcome his demons over the past couple of years. Let’s take a closer look at how Josh Brolin is fighting the good fight against his alcohol problems.

Sharing the Pain

Back in January 2019, Josh Brolin celebrated his five-year sobriety by posting a photo of a “drunken party night” on Instagram, which is a pretty unusual way to mark the anniversary of your good health. In the caption, Brolin writes a lengthy piece about how “drunk” is a state where you feel on top of the world for one period, only to fall into a cesspool of pain and anguish, wishing you were dead. Overall, he says, drunkenness leaves people as shattered shells of their former selves. To date, Brolin has not touched a single glass of booze or tried smoking, and we are very thankful for this.

No More Codependency

Although he doesn’t drink anymore, Brolin explains how he tries to channel that same vigor he experienced when he consumed alcohol. In essence, he wants to get high on life, not intoxicated on alcohol. In an interview with the Times, Brolin also sheds light on how he worked hard to shatter codependency, which has affected his relationships with women. Nowadays, he says his relationships are much happier, as is he.
