When you work in an industry that demands lots of time and effort, meaning a lot of sleepless nights, you can guarantee that many musicians are going to take part in less-than-favorable habits. If you were to name half of the men and women who have fallen victim to addiction or have experimented with drugs as a result of their “creative process,” you would probably be shocked at the length of that list alone. From tragic losses like Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix to the tough struggles of Pete Doherty, we can only begin to imagine what is ringing through the minds of these poor people. However, country star Keith Urban has taken the extra step to open up about his addiction and provide some advice to one young artist who nearly died from an opioid overdose recently. Let’s take a closer look at what the award-winning country star had to say.

Honesty Is the Best Policy

KEITH URBAN SHARES HIS STRUGGLE WITH ADDICTIONOver the course of his career, Keith Urban has been 100% honest about his recent addiction problems. In one interview with Today Extra (Australia), the country singer even extended his hand to pop singer Demi Lovato, who had recently suffered a near-fatal drug overdose. In the interview, he explains that he does not know any details about what kind of lady she is, but he does recommend that she keep good people around her at all times. Urban finally added that the decision to get better is always up to the addict, not the people who provide support.

All Because of My Wife

Ultimately, Urban is grateful to his wife, Nicole Kidman, for his health. In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, the singer opens up about his painful struggle to overcome addiction to alcohol and prescription pills. He describes his illness as a constant cycle of waking up, taking pills, drinking, and falling asleep once more. Back in 2007, though, Urban told reporters that his wife eventually staged an intervention, which got him back on his feet following the completion of rehab at the Betty Ford Clinic in Palm Springs.

However, with the right mixture of perseverance and determination, you can easily get back on track and be happy once more.
