Yesterday, November 16, 2018, Bloom Farms (based in the State of California) made the announcement that it would be shifting gears for gender equality in the marijuana industry. According to the group’s report from November 13, equal parts men and women will balance out the workforce and contribute wholly to cannabis markets by the end of 2020. So why is this such an issue? Recently, officials voiced concern that the marijuana industry was not a viable place for gender equality and did not promote a shared work environment for both men and women. So how is this company taking an alternative approach to this overly expressed issue? Let’s take a closer look at how men and women are joining forces to boost the marijuana industry, thanks to the efforts of Bloom Farms.

Guys vs. Dolls

According to recent business analyses, there is a huge gap (pretty much the size of the Grand Canyon) between male and female profits in the weed industry. In fact, one study conducted by Marijuana Business Daily determined that the percentage of women in executive positions (in the pot industry) dropped from 36% to 27% between 2015 and 2017. Likewise, further sources showcase that men are dominating the North American market. So, you may be wondering, why is this a notable issue for us to cover at all?

“Do-Gooder Protocol”

Needless to say, this is not the first time Bloom Farms has attempted to put out social fires. Since its creation in 2014, the company has adopted the tagline “mission-driven” and has shown full support for food banks in California and Nevada. While drug use is far from charitable, however, Bloom has found a way to do so by donating money for every vape pen, flower, and mainline product sold. For this group, the marijuana industry is a place to seek a balance between men and women, not to start a fire, despite the ever-going debate about the little green plant nationwide.
