Millions of Americans are dealing with their addictions on a daily basis. Just because they may feel hopeless does not mean there truly is no hope for recovery. There are endless options available to help individuals dealing with every type of addiction.
What is the first step to recovery?
It may sound a bit cliché, but the first step of recovery is recognizing that you do have a problem. Your addiction is only a part of you and is not the definition of you. It is just an issue that you are dealing with. After recognizing and admitting the problem, you are able to move forward with getting help.
What is detox?
The first step to treating an addiction often involves detox. A detox is a form of medically managed treatment that helps addicts rid their system of substances. The length of detox depends on the type of substance that is being cleared from your system. Some drugs take only a couple days while others, like heroin, can take 7 to 10 days or longer to completely clear.
Detox is often performed under medical supervision. At Asana Recovery, we have trained medical professionals monitoring patients around-the-clock as they go through detox. Withdrawal symptoms can be quite severe, so it is important to do everything possible to keep patients comfortable and to limit the symptoms they feel. Quite often, medications are used in detox so patients’ bodies are more comfortable as the harmful substances leave. Once detox is complete, it is time to move on to treatment.
What is inpatient treatment?
Inpatient treatment involves patients staying within a facility to receive the treatment they need. At Asana Recovery, we have trained counselors and wellness coaches and a full medical staff to help guide patients throughout the day. Through inpatient treatment, patients often learn about their addictions, determine what causes them, and learn skills for refusal they can use in the future.
Inpatient treatment often incorporates the use of one-on-one therapy, group therapy sessions, and physical activities. Each of these forms of therapy work to help addicts understand their addiction, find alternative means of enjoyment and move past their life as an addict. Inpatient treatment can last anywhere from a couple weeks up to 12-months depending on what the individual patient needs. It is more proven more beneficial for patients to stay a minimum of 90-days at an inpatient treatment facility as this is generally the most promising for long-term recovery.
What is after inpatient treatment?
After inpatient treatment, patients begin the process of transitioning back into the world. There are several levels of outpatient treatment available at Asana Recovery that slowly reintroduce patients back into society, helping them find school and jobs, and helping them actively develop skills for refusing substances when offered. Once a patient is released completely, there are endless groups available throughout communities that provide continual support. It is important to continue receiving treatment through therapy and gatherings in order to ensure you continue your life of sobriety.
