A SACRAMENTO-BASED MARIJUANA TESTING LAB FALSIFIES ITS RESULTS

Regardless of the fact that marijuana is now legal in multiple states, dealing with this fragrant and colorful herb can still prove to be a form of risky business, particularly for newcomers. After all, the little green plant is still a powerful drug, no matter what colorful expression you might use, and it requires tender loving care before being dished out to patients or recreational users. After all, we wouldn’t want anyone getting sick off a foreign substance on the marijuana, right? Unfortunately, mistakes do happen. Still, falsifying lab results is not a mere accident. According to reports, though, a marijuana testing lab in the Sacramento area has admitted to providing false test results to the public. Let’s take a closer look at this sticky situation up close and see what exactly happened.

Falsifying Records and Stripping Licenses

Recently, the Sacramento-based marijuana lab Sequoia Analytical Labs admitted to providing false information about its pot tests during a routine inspection conducted by state regulators. Based on these reports, lab director Marc Foster has taken full responsibility for falsifying information on 22 out of 66 pesticide tests.

Last week, the California Bureau of Cannabis Control paid Sequoia a surprise visit and determined the laboratory’s equipment was in terrible condition. Furthermore, Steve Dutra (general manager of Sequoia Analytical) explained that Foster was fully aware of the faulty equipment but fully admitted to retaining this knowledge. Dutra, apparently, was shocked by this reveal.

What Do Regulators Have to Say?

At this time, Sequoia has gained a new director and hopes to achieve a new license by January 1, 2019.

Meanwhile, the BCC has not provided any comments regarding this recent turn of events and (as far as we know) has not issued recalls for the products put through Sequoia. According to Tommy Pawloski (dispensary manager of Sacramento-based group All About Wellness) explained that retailers are simply waiting for the BCC to provide further instructions.

However, Joe Devlin (head of cannabis policy and enforcement for the City of Sacramento) explained that this loss of a testing lab could greatly impact local retailers. As a result of this activity, a bottleneck has been jammed in the marijuana supply chain.
