AAC Files Lawsuit against Addiction Provider Trade Group
- May 9, 2019
Needless to say, people who suffer from substance abuse or addiction and have sought help from treatment centers in the past will run into a mixed bag of programs. Some of these rehab centers provide high-quality care for men and women seeking help, while others use their patients as insurance for a large gain. Recently, the American Addiction Centers (AAC) targeted a major addiction provider trade group on the grounds of abusing and harming its collective of patients. Let’s take a closer look and learn the major reasons why the AAC filed this suit against this organization.
Taking on the NAATP
Overall, the AAC filed a lawsuit against the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) in an effort to protect each patient’s access to resources originating online. Although the group has fully acknowledged that marketing practices for addiction centers have greatly improved over the past years, AAC has emphasized how patients will receive the best treatment if they search for programs on reliable online sources. Specifically, the group urged the public to use its resources on the AAC websites rehab.com and recovery.org.
So why did AAC file the suit to begin with? According to a recent report, the NAATP had been attacking it, as well as its lineup of member groups, solely for anti-competitive means. Furthermore, a representative of AAC explains how NAATP is attempting to divide the industry, placing labels on the “good guys” and the “bad guys,” which will only harm patients more.
AAC has reiterated how shady organizations do exist within the addiction treatment industry; just ask the patients who have suffered from patient brokering schemes. However, they have agreed that separating good from bad should always been done for the benefit of the patient. Initiating competitive attacks disservices patients who are desperately seeking help.
