For over 20 years, the United States has been suffering from an onslaught of opioid use disorder, all stemming from, ironically, a mixture of drugs designed to hurt us and drugs designed to save us. In this span of two decades, hundreds of thousands of people have died from opioid-related overdoses, while millions more (about two million, to be exact) have become full-blown opioid addicts and abusers. Needless to say, the U.S. is in a bit of a pickle, and government officials are racing against a ticking clock to save as many lives as possible. For today, let’s take a closer look at how Senator and Presidential Candidate Elizabeth Warren plans to fight the American Opioid Crisis head-on.

Updating the CARE Act

On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) announced one of the most daring proposals to fight the onslaught of the opioid epidemic in history so far, adding to her current lineup of policy proposals that constitute her presidential campaign trail. As part of this new plan, built on the foundations of the CARE Act, Warren has proposed a $100 billion allocation to combat the Opioid Crisis over the next decade. In essence, her plan mirrors the advice which, according to spending experts, would completely make up for the losses experienced from this opioid onslaught.

According to Warren herself, members of the community are fighting at the front lines, and they need all the help they can get.

Call in the Troops

An array of activists, politicians, and leaders across the country have unanimously agreed that more action needs to be taken on part of the federal government in order to solve this opioid epidemic. In recent years, though, officials have only implemented single-billion digits to fight this public health emergency, one of the worst in U.S. history.

As part of this updated CARE Act, the new policy would receive funding from the previously proposed tax on the super-rich and would also target student loans and provide free admission to state colleges.

Seeking Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder

Opioid use disorder is easily one of the most terrifying substance use disorders on the planet, mostly because opioid addiction partially stems from a large number of drugs that are legally regulated by the federal government. For decades, our country has suffered beneath the weight of dangerous synthetics and legal painkillers, and millions of Americans have suffered from addiction throughout the 20 years the crisis has been brewing. However, you can make the right decision by taking a stand against your addiction and regaining your health and happiness.

If you are suffering from a severe case of drug addiction, or have a friend or loved one who is coping with this illness, get in touch with Asana Recovery today. Our professional team of counselors and healthcare experts will help you endure the painful process of opioid withdrawal and detox and guide you along the rocky road of rehabilitation. Soon enough, you will experience a faster and much more efficient recovery.

If you want to find out more about our residential treatment or supervised detoxification/withdrawal programs or enroll in one of these programs today, we are ready and waiting to speak with you at your leisure and your disclosure.
