Here is everything you need to know about gablofen abuse.

Gablofen Abuse

Abusing Baclofen (also known as Gablofen or Kemstro)  is defined as taking it in excessive amounts or in addition to alcohol and other drugs, and can produce feelings of euphoria (a high similar to that of being drunk or smoking marijuana). Baclofen users looking for this sensation often combine the drug with alcohol, opioids, or amphetamines.  When used as prescribed, Baclofen has not been found to be addictive.  Despite this, as with nearly any substance used to invoke a “high,” when misused it has the potential to become addictive. Over time, the user will need to ingest higher levels of the drug in order to experience the same sensation as the body begins to develop an increased tolerance.

Side effects of Baclofen can include:

  • – Drowsiness
  •
  • – Fatigue
  •
  • – Dizziness
  •
  • – Nausea
  •
  • – Insomnia
  •
  • – Headache
  •
  • – Shallow or weak breathing
  •
  • – Seizures
  •
  • – Hallucinations
  •
  • – Confusion

There is a high chance of overdosing on Baclofen, even more so when used recreationally. Signs of an overdose include drowsiness, vomiting, muscle weakness, dilated pupils, and weak or shallow breathing. If left untreated, an overdose can result in potentially fatal seizures, hypothermia, an alarmingly slow heart rate, an induced coma, or in some cases death. In addition to this, mixing Baclofen with other drugs or alcohol can produce more dangerous side effects and increase the rate of overdose.

Withdrawal From Baclofen

Individuals who have previously misused Baclofen report that a tolerance for it can be developed quickly and easily. Withdrawal symptoms are highly uncomfortable and very dangerous when not treated by a medical professional.

Baclofen withdrawal symptoms include:

  • – Return of or increased spasticity
  •
  • – Itchiness
  •
  • – Tingling sensations
  •
  • – Lightheadedness
  •
  • – Low blood pressure
  •

If untreated, early symptoms of withdrawal can morph into more unpleasant and severe symptoms. Worse symptoms include declining mental health, high fever, and muscle stiffness; in rare cases, the loss of properly functioning vital organs and possible death. When coping with withdrawal from Baclofen addiction, it is crucial to seek the care of medical professionals at a detox facility or addiction treatment center.
