Throughout the course of his career, Keith Richards has wow audiences as a lead guitarist and backup singer for the Rolling Stones, one of the most iconic rock bands in the history of the music business. One of the founding members of the group, Richards developed a hardcore, flamboyant, and eccentric persona onstage and offstage and was respected for his wild riffs and rhythm playing. However, for the rest of the world, he is best known for one thing and one thing only: drugs (and lots of them). At one point at the height of the band’s popularity, Richards was arrested for heroin possession in Canada and developed a taste for hard liquor. However, in a surprising twist, the world’s most eccentric rock star has announced he has stopped drinking hardcore alcoholic beverages. Why has he made this decision? Let’s take a closer look and find out more about Richards’ decision.

A Match Never Made in Heaven

Ultimately, Jack Daniels and Keith Richards were one of the most iconic duos in rock and roll since Robert Plant and Jimmy Page slammed audiences to the ground with Led Zeppelin, but the Stones guitarist recently put this habit to rest. According to Richards, who turns 75 next week, he decided to pull the plug on his drinking problem. Although he still drinks an occasional glass of wine or a beer, he will no longer indulge in whiskey or other forms of hard liquor. Just like his other habits, Richards said it was simply time to stop.

Playing Sober for the First Time

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Richards explained how strange it felt to play while clean of drugs or alcohol. Even Ronnie Wood (another guitarist for the Stones) explained that he and the other band members could play more efficiently and much cleaner. Even though they are in their 70s, Wood explained that they can play as well as 20-year olds due to the simple fact that drugs and alcohol are not in the picture.
