Overall, when you consider how far the marijuana debate has progressed, you will no doubt be amazed by the facts. For the past couple of years, the little green plant has virtually transformed the landscape of American culture (perhaps more than it did in the 1960s and the 1970s) and has, for the most part, changed the field of modern medicine. At this time, over 30 states have accepted medical marijuana, with 8 fully legalizing recreational cannabis. While Maine and Vermont generally dominate the Eastern Seaboard, Massachusetts has also made a name for itself in the legal weed network. However, one little state still seems to be plowing towards approval of recreational use of this drug. Let’s take a closer look at some facts about cannabis laws in Maryland.

Rolling along the Chesapeake Bay

Combining aspects of Mid-Atlantic, Northeastern, and South Atlantic culture and landscapes, Maryland might be a little state, but it has much to offer tourists and locals. Situated in the Chesapeake Bay estuary, the Old Line State was one of the original thirteen American colonies and, during the Civil War, its location between the Union and Confederacy lent a unique advantage to troops. Nature-lovers will also appreciate views of the Potomac River and a breathtaking panorama of the Appalachian Mountains, littered with gold and orange during the fall. Horse lovers will also recognize the island of Assateague as the home of the beautiful Chincoteague ponies, a breed made famous in Misty of Chincoteague. Wilderness and metropolitan landscapes combine to create a unique travel experience.

Trudging Along

While recreational cannabis is still illegal in the state, in 2014, Maryland’s government did officially legalize medical-grade marijuana and have allowed patients to carry a maximum 30-gram daily supply. However, patients and caregivers cannot cultivate private batches of the drug. Interestingly, in 2016, Maryland attempted to legalize recreational cannabis but ultimately failed. However, recent surveys have shown that 54% of Maryland residents have voiced favoritism towards the little green plant.
