If you have been keeping up with the Opioid Crisis in the news over the past couple of years, then you are probably aware that most of the chaos has spread to the Midwest and across New England, but as it turns out, one state in particular is preparing to bring out the big guns. Back in December 2018, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) received a staggering gift of $46.2 million from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as part of a united effort to fight the U.S. opioid epidemic. Although the Lone Star state might not be harboring an overwhelming opioid problem in its borders, Texas is still amping up to help the rest of us win this fight. Let’s take a closer look and find out some more information.

Full-Scale Treatment Options

According to Sonja Gaines, HHSC deputy executive commissioner for intellectual and developmental disability and behavioral health services, the multifaceted nature of the opioid epidemic requires a multi-layered approach, and Texas must continue to plow ahead to develop new methods of treatment and rehabilitation for victims. As she explains, this grant of more than $46 million will, with hope, help the state bring this dream to life. As part of this new program, officials can develop a string of services, including opioid misuse prevention strategies and medication-assistance therapy, and create full-spectrum treatment models and programs for community support and therapy.

Expanding Capacity

On that note, this new grant will be aligned with the Texas Targeted Opioid Response Funds, awarded to the State of Texas in 2017. These funds, adding up to an additional $27.4 million, have significantly helped Texans over the past two years and provided updates to technical assistance that will boost the potential for the new programs, which will certainly help. Based on reports from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), Texas has documented an increase from 1.7 opioid overdose-related fatalities per 100,000 residents in 1999 to 4.9 fatalities per 100,000 residents in 2016.

Seeking Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder

Opioid use disorder is easily one of the most terrifying substance use disorders on the planet, mostly because opioid addiction partially stems from a large number of drugs that are legally regulated by the federal government. For decades, our country has suffered beneath the weight of dangerous synthetics and legal painkillers, and millions of Americans have suffered from addiction throughout the 20 years the crisis has been brewing. However, you can make the right decision by taking a stand against your addiction and regaining your health and happiness.

If you are suffering from a severe case of drug addiction, or have a friend or loved one who is coping with this illness, get in touch with Asana Recovery today. Our professional team of counselors and healthcare experts will help you endure the painful process of opioid withdrawal and detox and guide you along the rocky road of rehabilitation. Soon enough, you will experience a faster and much more efficient recovery.

If you want to find out more about our residential treatment or supervised detoxification/withdrawal programs or enroll in one of these programs today, we are ready and waiting to speak with you at your leisure and your disclosure.
