Sometimes, the most amazing people can hide their pain behind a pearly white smile. Just ask the models who use their bodies and faces to flaunt beauty for the happiness of men, women, and children around the world. For centuries, lovely ladies and handsome men have been strutting their stuff on catwalks and stages, posing for pictures or illustrations to promote fashion, film, and theater. However, as you have probably guessed by now, there is a darker side to this industry. Let’s take a closer look at the potent mixture of modeling and drug use.

Anna Nicole Smith (1967-2007)

Perhaps one of the saddest examples of a model-turned-drug addict is Anna Nicole Smith. Born Vickie Lynn Hogan in 1967, this beautiful blonde was best known for her appearance in the Playboy centerfold (1992) and as Playboy Playmate of the Year (1993). With her curvy waist and a soft-spoken voice on par with Marilyn Monroe, Smith could not battle her severe addiction to prescription painkillers. Only a few months after her son died, the model passed away in 2007.

Jael Strauss (1984-2018)

Once a contestant on America’s Next Top Model, Jael Strauss shocked her followers when she opened up about her drug addiction. On one appearance on Dr. Phil, the model revealed she had been using crystal meth, but her face spoke a thousand words. Pocked skin and dirty teeth revealed a life of hardships and pain. However, with some urging from her family, Strauss eventually entered a rehab facility and broke her attachment to meth.

Simone Farrow (1975-)

A former model for Ed Hardy, Simone Farrow is an Australian swimsuit model who was arrested for being the leader of an international drug ring. Before being detained by authorities, Farrow had fled a bail of $150,000 and had already been on the run for several, long months. Having at least 19 aliases, the model eventually claimed she had been running from an attacker, but police eventually discovered she was transporting ice (an Australian term for crystal meth).
