You could say Tim Allen has gone “to infinity and beyond” with his career. At the time, no one knew about Tim Allen and his addiction. He’s entertained the whole world. After starting out as a standup comedian, the actor landed the role of Tim “the Tool Man” Taylor. On Home Improvement he became a household name after voicing Buzz Lightyear on the Disney/PIXAR hit Toy Story (a job he’s still doing to this day).
From Galaxy Quest and The Santa Clause he was already a celebrity comedian but what many of his fans don’t know is he’s been through more than a few bad auditions. Overall Tim Allen has been in drug crimes and had severe addiction to alcohol and cocaine. Let’s get into it.
Prison Time
Before he was the “Tool Man” Taylor he wore a different kind of uniform in the 1970s. This was when he was convicted of felony drug trafficking. In an interview with Closer magazine he talks about his arrest at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan (1978) for cocaine possession.
He plead guilty to 2 counts of drug trafficking and spent 2 years and 4 months in a federal prison (in Minnesota) before being paroled in 1981. According to Tim, his time in prison gave him humility.
Real Life
Years later in 1984 he married Laura Deibel. They had a daughter 5 years later. After he landed the Home Improvement gig he went right back down. He got a DUI in 1998. Right after the charges he went into rehab for alcohol abuse.
Overall he says he’s not that guy anymore. But we’re happy to tell you as of 2018 Tim Allen is 21 years sober.
