If The Expendables (2010-2014) has taught us anything it’s that age is just a number when it comes to being a tough guy. But we have to admit the cast of this film are still more macho than many of the up and coming action stars today.
Over the years men in the action genre have given us some of the best fight scenes and coolest one liners to come out of Hollywood since John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart were on the big screen.
But as it turns out some of them may have been getting more of a boost than we were expecting. Here are the tough guys who used steroids (and other PEDs) during filming.
Jeremy Jackson
Girls of the 90s fell in love with this teen heartthrob. Most of whom loved his role as Hobie Buchannon on Baywatch (1989-2001). But like many other teens and older kids of the 90s Jeremy Jackson got caught up in a riptide (so to speak) of problems.
His abuse of speed and ecstasy led to him losing his job on Baywatch. But he wanted to get his body back in the most hardcore way: anabolic steroids. According to Jackson he wanted to be the next Stallone.
So Jackson blew $200,000 to get pumped up.
Mickey Rourke
Here’s an actor who has definitely earned his bad boy status in Hollywood. But some of you may not know that back in the day Mickey Rourke was a champion boxer. During the filming of The Wrestler (2008) he decided he didn’t have the endurance to do his own stunts so he decided to use anabolic steroids; ironic given his character in the film also uses steroids.
Sylvester Stallone
Ironically the actor who inspired Jeremy Jackson to use steroids had used them himself. He became one of the biggest action stars of all time. Sylvester Stallone is still a big deal in Hollywood. Luckily his past has been buried deep. According to one report in 2007 he had been using performance enhancing drugs. Human growth hormones. He even used them wherever he could. In one instance in an airport.
