If the hit film franchise The Expendables (2010-2014) has taught us anything, it’s that you don’t have to let age hold you back from being a strong man, but we have to admit that the cast members of this film still outrank many up-and-coming action stars today. Over the course of their careers, men in the action film genre have given us some of the best fight scenes and catchiest one-liners to come out of Hollywood since John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart graced the silver screen. However, as it turns out, some of them may have been getting more of a kick than we were looking for. Here are some tough guys who used steroids (and other PEDs) during filming.
Girls of the 90s fell in love with this teen heartthrob, thanks to his portrayal of Hobie Buchannon on Baywatch (1989-2001). However, like many other teens and older children of the 90s, Jeremy Jackson got swept away in a riptide (so to speak) of problems. Ultimately, his abuse of speed and ecstasy resulted in the loss of his job on Baywatch, but he was desperate to get his figure back in the most hardcore way: anabolic steroids. According to Jackson, he wanted to be the next Stallone.
As a result, Jackson blew $200,000 to get pumped up.
Here is an actor that has definitely cemented his presence as a Hollywood bad boy. However, some of you might not know that, during his heyday, Mickey Rourke was a championship boxer. During the filming of The Wrestler (2008), though, the iconic actor decided he didn’t have the stamina to properly execute his role, so he opted to use anabolic steroids; an ironic twist, given that his character in the film also uses steroids.
Ironically, the actor who inspired Jeremy Jackson to take steroids had also been dabbling in these drugs himself. Possibly one of the most iconic action stars of all time, Sylvester Stallone has continued to uphold an incredible status in Hollywood, but, thankfully, his past has been buried deep underground. According to one report in 2007, the actor had been toting a few performance-enhancing drugs, specifically human growth hormone, in an airport.
