After a long and trying year of work, there is nothing better than hopping on a plane and taking off to a warm, tropical paradise. Besides the obvious choices of California and Florida, some tourists prefer to venture to our southern neighbor Mexico and enjoy the coastal beauty of Cancun and the warm blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Now, imagine the horror of watching your loved one suffering from seizures and falling into a pool, all because of a deadly drink laced with a toxic chemical? Unfortunately, that was the reality the Connor family faced when they visited a resort in the Riveria Maya in Mexico. After consuming a tainted alcoholic beverage, Abbey Conner fell into a swimming pool and drowned due to a poisonous substance in her drink. Let’s take a closer look at this overwhelmingly tragic situation and find out more.

Disaster in Paradise

At this time, the family of Abbey Connor is suing the Iberostar hotel at Riveria Maya (Mexico), where the young woman drowned in a pool after consuming a poisoned alcoholic beverage. Far back in January 2018, Connor consumed a reputedly tainted drink before she died. Ultimately, her family has accused the hotel of being fully knowledgeable that they were giving a poisonous substance to the 20-year old and the event, overall, was 100% avoidable.

Tragically, Abbey Connor had only spent a few hours at the Iberostar before her tragic death. According to her family, the staff at the hotel served the tainted drinks to Abbey and her older brother Austin. Later, the family found their daughter dead in the swimming pool and discovered Austin, face-down, in a small pool of water. While he survived, his sister did not.

Windshield Washer Fluid

So what chemical caused the tragic death of Abbey Conner?

According to the Mexican authorities, 235 gallons of seized alcohol contained toxic quantities of methanol, a chemical that is commonly found in (of all things) windshield washer fluid. Furthermore, law enforcement confirmed that the 90 gallons of alcohol they seized had been stored in an unsanitary environment.
